This is an unusual KU Variation P.08 Luger pistol that has the earlier "S/42" code marked toggle, which was the secret code for the Mauser factory. The chamber area is stamped "41" for year of manufacture with, as noted, the "S/42" marked toggle. In addition this scarce Luger has the small "Ku" markings in front of the barrel extension serial number, which actually indicated that it was a late 1944 contract for the Luftwaffe assembled by Krieghoff using left over, or out of tolerance parts from the Mauser factory. These are a fairly scarce pistol as approximately 2,500 total were produced in 1941 with approximately 30-50 documented examples were produced with this earlier "S/42" marked toggle assembly intermixed with the regular production examples. This series of Luger will have very limited Luftwaffe proofs, as in this example, that it has Mauser factory parts with no German Army proofs, with only a single very faint late war Luftwaffe "LZA" proof on the right side of the barrel extension and left side of the barrel, with no other proofs. Both magazines are the late type four Army versions with the blued "fxo/Eagle 37" marked magazine bodies with pinned plastic bases that are unmarked. This example is complete with a standard 1940 dated, brown leather holster. The back side is stamped: "KIMNACH U BRUNN/KAISERSLAUTEN/1940".

Excellent retaining 99% of the blue finish, with wear on the edges and high spots. The markings are still clear and distinct. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice checkering on both sides, showing light wear mixed with some minor nicks in the checkering in a couple of places. Mechanically excellent. The holster is in very good condition with a separated flap tie down strap (absent) and clear distinct markings. There are numerous little black blotches on the top of the flap and down the front of the holster that are actually small little areas of the leather that has separated and peeled off, probably due to improper late war tanning procedures.
