Description:

Improved design of the original Model 3, Smith & Wesson's first top break, automatic ejection revolver manufactured from 1887 to 1910. This was the first Smith & Wesson to be manufactured with adjustable target sights as standard and only 4,333 were made. The top of barrel rib is marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT'D JAN 17 & 24. 65. JULY 11. 65./AUG 24. 69. APR 20. 75 FEB 20. & DEC 18. 1877 REISSUE JULY 25. 1871." The matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear cylinder face, barrel and barrel latch. This model features a pinned target blade front and adjustable target rear sights. Six shot fluted cylinder with automatic ejector. Casehardened trigger guard, trigger and hammer, with remaining surfaces nickel. Fitted with checkered hard rubber S&W monogram grips. The butt of the revolver is notched for a stock, however, the back strap was left unmodified.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 95% original nickel finish with some light flaking on the frame, some muzzle wear and a cylinder drag line. Overall there are a few minor dings and scratches. The trigger guard has a smooth gray patina with traces of dark original case colors in the protected areas. The hammer retains 90% original bright case colors. The grips are good with an old repair on the bottom right panel, a few minor handling marks overall and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
