The two-piece rosewood grips have a high polish piano finish. The top of the barrel rib is roll-stamped "SMITH.&WESSON. SPRINGFIELD. MASS." in one line. "PATENTED APRIL 3,1855. The serial number "41437" is stamped on the butt. The S&W No.2 Old Model was a popular personal handgun during the Civil War. Old Model No. 2 revolvers were carried by famous military and western figures. Lawman and gunfighter James Butler ("Wild Bill") Hickok carried a S&W Old Model No. 2 when he was killed in Deadwood, Dakota Territory in 1874.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The revolver retains nearly 98% strong original blue and casehardened finish. Wear is limited to some thinning on the grip straps. The ejector pin, hammer and trigger retain nearly all of the casehardened finish. The barrel and cylinder markings are crisp. The rosewood grips are excellent plus and retain nearly all of the piano finish with virtually no handling wear. This is an exceptional S&W No. 2 Old Model Revolver that easily ranks within the top 1% of S&W No. 2 Army Revolvers. Absolutely magnificent!
