Description:

Manufactured in 1918, this bayonet is configured for use with a Maxim Silencer, which was seen in limited numbers on American-issued 1903 rifles during the First World War. The chief modification is the deletion of the conventional muzzle ring from the guard in place of a dovetail block sized for a slot on the underside of the silencer. Overall length is 21 1/2 inches, with a 17 inch straight single fuller blade, marked "US/863265" on the right ricasso and "S A/(bomb)/1918" on the left. The grip is ribbed hardwood, with a black paint finish to the blade and guard. Included with the bayonet is a copy of War Department Basic Field Manual FM 23-25, printed in 1940 and signed "Property of/Lt. Hyman A Phillips" on the cover.

Rating Definition:

Very good as restored with a rewelded cut 4 inches up the blade, 80% of the black paint finish, and scattered handling marks. Some minor stains are present on the manual.
