Smith & Wesson Model 3 Russian Second Model revolver with S&W factory letter. The letter describes this revolver as a: S&W Model 3, Russian Second Model, Contract Reject and Remarked Variation, caliber .44 S&W Russian. The letter states that factory records show that this revolver was shipped to S&W distributor M.W. Robinson in New York as part of an order for 10 revolvers from Schuyler, Hartley and Graham and had a seven-inch barrel, nickel-plated finish and smooth walnut grips. The revolver has the distinctive S&W Russian round butt, raised knuckle on the back strap, finger rest on the trigger guard, pinned front sight blade and small screw on the top strap. The butt is fitted with a lanyard loop. The barrel, cylinder and frame are nickel-plated and the trigger, hammer and trigger guard are color case-hardened. The two-piece walnut grips are oil finished. The top of the barrel rib is roll-stamped with the one-line S&W legend with "RUSSIAN MODEL" at the cylinder end. The butt is stamped with the Schuyler, Hartley and Graham marking consisting of the letters "SH" in a triangle. The serial number, "22794" is stamped on the butt, the rear face of the cylinder and on the back of the barrel. The barrel latch is a period replacement which was subsequently stamped with partial SN# "794". All of the visible serial numbers match.

Very good. The revolver retains at least 85% of the original nickel-plated finish. There is very fine spotting on most of the nickel-plated components and some minor flaking. The barrel latch has been polished bright. The hammer, trigger guard and trigger retain more than 90% of the color case-hardened finish. The grips are in very fine condition with light handling wear. The markings and serial numbers are crisp. This is a very good example of a scarce Schuyler, Hartley and Graham, S&W Model 3 Russian Second Model revolver.
