Manufactured in 1897, this rifle is fitted with a 26 inch tapered extra lightweight barrel which is fitted with a special high blade front sight and adjustable rear buck horn sight. The receiver is equipped with a Lyman receiver peep sight. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address ahead of the rear sight and "30 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1894/-WINCHESTER-/PAT. AUG. 21, 1894", the takedown lever is marked with the 1893 patent date and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. 1/2 magazine tube, blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a hard rubber Winchester shotgun buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verified the extra light weight round barreled takedown rifle configuration, caliber, plain trigger, 1/2 magazine, shotgun butt with hard rubber buttplate, and that it was received in the warehouse on October 18, 1897 and shipped out the next day.

Fine. The rifle retains 40% of the original blue finish with a smooth brown and gray patina on the balance. The underside of the barrel ahead of the magazine tube shows the normal gouges and scratches typically found on these takedown rifles. The hammer and lever have a smooth mottled gray patina with traces of original case colors in the protected areas. The wood is very good with some scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
