Special order, deluxe, Winchester Model 1894 Extra lightweight Take-down Rifle with numerous special order features and British proofmarks. The rifle is complete with a Cody Firearms Museum letter that states this rifle was shipped from Winchester on December 8, 1904. The letter describes the rifle features as: "30 Caliber", with "22-inch, 1/2 octagon barrel", "Plain trigger", "Lyman front and rear sights", "1/2 magazine", "Shotgun butt with rubber buttplate", "Take-down", "Extra light" and "Oil finish". The rifle has a blued barrel, half-magazine, forearm cap and receiver. The hammer and lever are color case-hardened. The forearm and pistol grip stock are highly figured, fancy grain, 3X walnut with "Style H" checkering and "Extra" oil finish. The stock has a hard rubber pistol grip cap embossed: "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS" and special order, black, hard rubber, checkered shotgun buttplate with the Winchester logo embossed in a circle in the center. The half-octagon barrel has a special order Lyman Express front sight with ivory bead and a rare "Winchester Express", three-leaf, rear sight graduated at 50, 100 and 200 yards with platinum sighting lines. A Lyman folding combination rear sight is mounted on the receiver tang. The left barrel flat is stamped with a variety of British 1904-1925 proofmarks that include London "Crown/V" and "Crown C/P" proof and view marks, Nitro Proof "NP" stamp and "NITRO PROVED". "Crown/V" inspection marks are also stamped on the upper left side of the take-down collar and receiver and on the top of the bolt.. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN.U.S.A. PATENTED AUGUST 21 1894.". The left barrel flat is roll-stamped: "NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" in two lines below the rear sight. The serial number, "244967" is stamped across the bottom of the receiver. The rifle is complete with two empty ten-round cartons of Kynoch ".30/30 WINCHESTER" cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 97% plus of the original blue and case-hardened finish and shows only very careful handling. The octagon portion of the barrel has nearly all of the blue finish intact; the round half of the barrel has several small spots of shallow pitting on the right side and some light take-down scratches in front of the magazine. The take-down collar retains nearly all of the original blue finish. The barrel markings and proof marks are sharp. The receiver and bolt have 98% of the original finish and show minimal handling wear. The loading gate has 98% of the fiery niter blue finish. The receiver screws have most of the fire blue finish intact. The hammer and sides of the lever have vivid case colors; the case colors on the bottom and contact points of the lever have muted case colors. The fancy walnut stock and forearm are both in excellent condition with nearly all of the satin, extra oil finish and very sharp checkering. The buttplate and pistol grip cap are in excellent condition. Wear on the stock and forearm is limited to a few, very minor, handling marks. This is an excellent example of a rare, British proofed Deluxe, Extra Lightweight Winchester Model 1894 Take-down Rifle with numerous special order features.
