Gauge: 30 WCF
Barrel: 20 inch round
Finish: blue
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1315

Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun
Description:

Manufactured in 1923, this carbine features Style H checkering on 3X Grade walnut and a rare trapdoor buttstock compartment, (cleaning rod not included). These trapdoors were not provided on 1894s except by special order only, however many had a hole drilled to reduce weight, but had no trapdoor buttplates. The left side of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent date, nickel steel/smokeless powder marking and ".30 W.C.F.". The Winchester oval proof is marked on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech, the upper tang is marked with the three line model, maker, trade mark marking and the serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. Pinned blade front and folding ladder carbine rear sights, saddle ring and stud on the left side of the receiver and mounted with 3X Grade checkered forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate and factory sling swivels.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The carbine retains 80% original blue finish with areas faded to a smooth plum patina and showing some edge wear and a few light scratches on the receiver. The wood is fine with a few minor dents, handling marks and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is fine. In writer's many years of describing firearms I have seen only a couple of model 1894s with a trapdoor buttplate. (Both of which are in this auction!)
