This is an attractive example of a Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolver that was manufactured in 1863 and subsequently refurbished in the 20th Century. The revolver is engraved with Germanic scrollwork on a punch-dot background and has a silver-plated finish. The engraving covers the sides and bottom of the loading lever and approximately half of the cylinder. The traditional wolf head motif is engraved on the sides of the hammer near the face. The engraving is nearly identical to the engraving on Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolvers serial numbers 13511 and 13514 which were presented to General George Armstrong Custer. A small "P" stamped above or below the serial number on the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap indicates that the components were factory designated for engraving or special finish. The one-piece ivory grip is relief-carved with the Mexican Eagle and serpent motif on the left side. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend "- ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" in one line. "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped on the left side of the frame in an engraved panel. The full serial number, "13512" is located on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The engraved cylinder lacks the markings and serial number found on standard production revolvers. The revolver has a mahogany, American style case with five compartments lined with purple velvet. The case contains a 250 cap tin of Eley Bros percussion caps with green paper label, assorted .36 caliber round balls and conical bullets, a silver-plated powder flask with fixed charger, embossed with crossed revolvers, stars and eagle and shield, crossed flags and a cannon, L-shaped combination nipple wrench and screwdriver, silver-plated iron double cavity bullet mold with "COLTS/PATENT" on the sprue cutter and "36" on the right block, package of six Hazards combustible cartridges for the "Colts Revolving Belt Pistol" and two keys. Reportedly purchased as authentic at Christies over a quarter of a century ago. We have no catalogue at the time of description to verify.

Very fine as professionally restored many years ago. The entire revolver has been resilvered with nearly all remaining. The back strap has been re-numbered. The ivory grip is very fine with sharp relief carving; wear is limited to some hairline age stress lines on the butt and an old barely noticeable chip on the left rear of the grip. The accessories are correct replacements. The case is a genuine Colt case is fine. The case exterior has numerous small dents and scratches. The interior is fine and wear is limited to some light compression marks. The replated accessories are all very good. This is a very attractive engraved Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolver with factory case and accessories.
