This is an example of a totally restored/refurbished Colt Style Second Model Dragoon revolver. The revolver has the combination of square-back trigger guard and rectangular cylinder stops that identify it as a Second Model Dragoon. The top barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY-" and "COLTS/PATENT" is marked on the left side of the frame. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Ranger and Indian fight scene and "MODEL U.S.M.R./COLT'S PATENT". The matching serial number is stamped on the loading lever, barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder and back strap, with the partial serial number "0251" on the wedge and cylinder pin. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights, blur barrel and cylinder, casehardened loading lever, frame and hammer, and silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap. Fitted with a one-piece walnut grip. Colt manufactured 2,700 Second Model Dragoon Revolvers in 1850-1851. A large percentage of these revolvers were manufactured for the Army. Commercial production Second Model Dragoon Revolvers are scarce.

Professionally custom assembled/rebuilt/refurbished by Tommy Hass. The barrel and cylinder retain 95% thinning blue finish showing some muzzle wear and areas fading to a smooth gray. Most of the case colors remain on the frame, hammer and loading lever with a smooth silver gray patina on the balance. 30% of the silver plating remains, mainly on the top of the back strap, butt, trigger guard bow and the protected areas around it, with a very pleasant aged patina on the balance. The remaining silver has darkened with age. The grip shows some minor lower edge wear on the left side and a few minor dings and handling marks. The cylinder scene and markings are clear. The action is excellent.
