Description:

This rifle was originally manufactured by Henry Dehuff for the U.S. government circa 1808 to 1810. It has been estimated that 1,779 U.S. contract Model 1807 rifles were fabricated by Dehuff and other Lancaster, Pennsylvania, gunmakers including Jacob Dickert. The top barrel flat is signed "Dehuff" behind the rear sight followed by a stamped "US" at the breech. The upper left barrel flat is stamped with a sunken oval cartouche featuring an raised eagle head over the letter "P". The rifled barrel is fitted with a brass blade front sight and a fixed "V" notch rear sight. Lateral pins secure the barrel to the plain maple stock. The rifle has brass furniture including the side plate, buttplate, forend cap and patch box. The two piece patch box is secured by three screws. The full length stock is oiled maple and features a straight edge cheekpiece on the left side. The forend cap is retained by a brass pin. The three sheet brass thimbles are secured by lateral pins with the upper and middle thimbles having decorative grooves on both ends. Included with the rifle is a brass tipped hickory ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Good as reconverted to flintlock. The barrel has a mottled gray patina with a small split towards the rear sight. The action has a smooth dark patina. The brass has an even patina with a darker patina on the side plate. The refinished stock is fair with a few cracks, a missing sliver of wood from the forearm and some minor handling marks.
