The lock plate is marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1853" behind the hammer and the eagle/shield motif above "US" is ahead of the hammer. The barrel tang is also dated 1853. Equipped with a brass blade front sight and a fixed notch rear sight. A small letter "S" is stamped on the right side of the barrel near the bolster. The left side of the barrel is stamped "WW/P" and has the "V/P/Eagle Head" proof and inspection marks. The two barrel bands, trigger guard, buttplate, side plate and patch box are brass which is correct for Model 1841s manufactured before 1855. The stock has a patch box on the right side and the number "15" is stamped behind the barrel tang. With the rifle is a brass tipped iron ramrod and a wooden/brass muzzle plug.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel is mostly a streaked artificial smooth brown patina. The lock and hammer have a smooth gray patina with some mild pitting on the hammer. The brass has an even patina. The stock is very good with a couple missing surface chips, a hairline crack near the side plate and some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically fine.
