Description:

Manufactured in 1897. Equipped with a raised ramp front blade sight and a folding leaf rear sight with a base graduated to 6 and ladder graduated 7 to 20 with "C" marked on the upper right corner. The straight grip stock has a boxed "JSA/1897" cartouche on the left side of the wrist, a "P" proof on the underside and a buttplate with compartment (no cleaning rod). A saddle bar with ring is mounted on the left side of the stock. The left side of the stock is boldly stamped "P.S.A.L./NYC." Founded in 1903, the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) provides and maintains a sports program for students enrolled in New York City public schools. The PSAL did have rifle marksmanship in the early 1900s.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The carbine retains 40% thin original blue finish showing some thinning to a brown. The receiver retains traces of case colors, otherwise faded to a gray. The reoiled wood is very good with eight cartouches, some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
