Description:

This lever activated falling block single shot target rifle was designed by Lewis Hepburn and was manufactured from 1883 to 1907 with approximately 10,000 in total production. The top barrel flat is marked "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION. N.Y." ahead of the rear sight. Windage adjustable globe front sight and adjustable rear sporting sight. There is a tang mounted mid-range peep sight. The lower left side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT./OCT 7TH 1879" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The bottom barrel flat under the forearm is marked "9545", "S", "38.55" and "37504" under the forearm and "38.55" ahead of the forearm. Blue barrel, niter blue breechblock, hammer and trigger, casehardened remaining metal parts and mounted with a smooth forearm with ebony forend insert, and checkered round knob pistol grip stock with iron crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 60% original blue finish with some thinning to smooth plum. There is a non-factory filler screw present on top of barrel, forward of breech. Most of the niter blue finish remains on the breechblock, hammer and trigger. The receiver retains 30% original faded case colors with a smooth dove gray patina on the balance. The trigger guard has a smooth mottled dark gray patina. The wood has been revarnished and remains very good with a few minor dents and dings, and crisp checkering. There is a swivel hole present on tip of forearm. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
