Description:

Manufactured for the foreign market in the 19th Century and featuring gold inlay and chiseled decoration. This kulah khud has chiseled floral and animal decoration along with an inscription around the lower edge on the one-piece bowl. There is a pyramidal spike riveted to the top in the center that also has chiseled decoration. There are 2 feather holders riveted to the front along with a sliding nasal guard. There is gold koftgari on the spike, bowl, plume holders and nasal guard. Around the bottom edge is a number of small holes with very fine butted link chain mail with a vandyked lower edge. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Rating Definition:

Fine, the metal components have a dark aged patina with some minor surface oxidation on the mail. Most of the chiseled decoration remains sharp and is clearly visible. Much of the gold koftgari remains. The mail has some areas where links have pulled apart or detached from the bowl. The interior has some minor surface oxidation and there is a small repair on the right side. An outstanding example!
