Description:

1) Measuring 19 3/4 inches overall, with a 14 1/2 inch meteor Damascus blade, with 9 bends and an asymmetric base, and a stone accented golden collar between the blade and the grip, which is carved in the form of a man with a lion head, perched on a stool, with an obsidian knife concealed behind his head. With a superbly carved hardwood sheath, matching the grip in tone and grain, with raised carved monstrous heads, scrollwork, checkerboarding and floral patterns. 2) 18th Century Kris measuring 18 1/2 inches overall, with a 14 inch Damascus blade, with 11 bends and a proper two-piece asymmetric base. Hardwood grip, with carved grotesque head designs and a metal collar. The grip is mounted to run perpendicular to the blade, as opposed to the more typical parallel alignment; this may have been to facilitate an "modified saber" style grip. Hardwood and brass scabbard, with a "boat" profile throat and impressed floral designs on the outer face of the brass. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Rating Definition:

1) Very fine, with a mixed gray patina and minor spotting overall. The grip and scabbard are both very good, with some minor pressure dents. 2) Good, with finely contrasting metal layers in the blade, a dark patina overall, and some mild pitting. The wood shows minor handling marks, with a small chip on the throat, and the brass some dents and a mixed patina.
