Description:

1) Measuring 69 inches overall, with a 51 inch flamberge blade, fitted with a pair of upturned 8 3/4 inch wide parrying hooks, and a leather wrap impressed with cross moline stamps extending up past the hooks. The hilt is equipped with an 18 1/2 inch wide crossguard and side rings, all showing punched-through heart and circle designs, leather wrapped octagonal hardwood grip, and a round pommel. Overall weight is 9.35 pounds. 2) Manufactured in the style of the late 15th or early 16th Century, this sword measures 65 inches overall, with a 50 1/2 inch double edged triple fuller blade, outfitted with a set of 4 1/2 inch wide guard spikes, engraved with geometric designs, and marked "ANDREA FERARA ME FECIT" (Andrea Ferara made me) in one of the fullers. This is most likely in imitation of the maker's mark of Andrea Ferrara, the semi-legendary Scottish maker. The hilt is equipped with side guard rings, 18 inch wide octagonal twist quillions, leather wrapped octagonal hardwood grip, and a conical pommel. Overall weight is 7.6 pounds. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Rating Definition:

1) Good, with a mixed gray patina and scattered pitting overall. The leather shows mild wear and scuffing, and the hilt fittings are rugged. 2) Very fine, with a mixed gray patina overall, extensive light pitting and mild handling marks. The leather shows some cracking and scuffs. All hilt furniture is rigidly secured to the blade.
