Description:

This is an example of a 1920 type Luger Carbine based on an original 1906 Type Luger pistol. These early Luger carbines have always been a highly desirable and eagerly sought Luger that would be the center piece of any collection. This example has been manufactured as a late 1920 era carbine that would have been sold by one of the large import companies post-WWI. Originally these 1920 type carbines were made on special order only and marketed as a light rifle substitute chambered in the high velocity 7.65 mm Luger cartridge. This example has a blank chamber with the DWM markings on the front toggle. It has been professionally fitted with a correct style front frame extension with a 1920 style forend and carbine stock. The left side of the barrel extension and breech block are both correctly stamped with a "crown/N" commercial proof and the left side frame rail is stamped "MADE IN GERMANY" correctly indicating it was intended to be exported out of Germany. Currently it has a 1920 type carbine barrel that is 12 inches in length with a correct style forend and recoil lug. It has a carbine style ramp front sight and three position carbine style rear sight. The rear underside of the barrel and top of the recoil lug are both stamped "7" and then further down the barrel. The majority of the parts are stamped with serial number "13". The extractor is marked "GELADEN" and it has the altered first type safety area, where the "GESICHERT" markings have been milled off but not remarked. It has walnut checkered grips with a nickel plated magazine. The forearm has the correct Schnabel tip with coarse 1920 style checkering on both sides. The pistol is complete with a 1920 style walnut shoulder stock that very closely duplicates the original one that is checkered on both sides with a blue attaching iron that is numbered "13" and is fitted with a sling swivel on the underside of the butt. This very nice looking rig is complete with four original nickel plated magazines, all with unnumbered unmarked wooden bases. This Luger carbine rig includes a leather sling, Luger takedown tool and pin punch. All magazines the accessories are housed in a custom six compartment presentation display case. The case itself has a canvas cover with dark red velvet interior with a specific compartment for each item.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as restored and assembled with 99% of the current blue remaining. The grips, forend and stock are all very fine with nice distinct checkering overall with some minor handling marks. The magazines are excellent, so are the various accessories and storage case. A very nice looking 1920 type Luger carbine rig.
