Excellent Early World War II Johnson Model 1941 Semi-Automatic Rifle

This is an excellent example of a desirable WWII Model 1941 Johnson Semi-Automatic Rifle. These Johnson rifles have several unique features, two of them being that they have a removable barrel for easy storage in a parachute jump bag and the second being that their rotary magazine, which held ten rounds. This rotary magazine was a new innovation at this time and could be easily topped off with either single or multiple rounds before or during a battle; something that the M1 Garand rifle did not have the capability to do. The receiver is marked with the standard five line patent dates followed by the four line "JOHNSON AUTOMATICS/MODEL OF 1941" logo, address and the serial number "A5607". The front barrel flange is correctly marked ".30-06" above and "41" below it. The right rear side of the receiver has a small five-pointed star and is marked inside a triangle below the rear sight "CRANSTON/ARMS/CO.". The rear sight calibrations are correctly marked in meters on the side. These rifles were seriously considered by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps as an alternative to the M1 Garand Rifle in 1941. Although these rifles were never officially adopted by the Army, after the fall of the Dutch East Indies to Japan in 1942, some of the Dutch contract rifles were obtained by the Marine Corps as a war expedient weapon and were subsequently issued to the Marine Parachute and Raider Battalions and used in the early island hopping campaign in the South Pacific in 1943.

ConditionExcellent with 97% of the parkerized finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear. The reoiled stock and forend are both in very fine condition with minimal handling marks with a nice matching dark brown color overall with an oil finish. An excellent example of a WWII Johnson semi-automatic rifle.
