Description:

Manufactured in 1918, this example has an interesting mixture of features that were only available for a short time. The barrel is marked in the standard way with "S A/flaming bomb/1-18" behind the standard front sight, the rear sight still has the 2,850 yard volley notch, the trigger is smooth and the sling swivels have a solid shank. The bolt has a straight handle with an "S" steel lot code on the bottom of the safety lug. Mounted on a smooth walnut straight grip stock with grasping grooves, two reinforcing bolts, a boxed "W.E.S." cartouche on the left wrist, a circled "P" proofmark on the bottom of the wrist and a smooth steel buttplate. With a front sight cover and a Springfield Armory Model 1905 bayonet dated 1912 with leather scabbard marked "R.I.A./1911./H.E.K." on the backside.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as Arsenal refurbished, 90% plus the blue finish remains with scattered minor scratches and dings under the finish along with scattered scratches and high edge wear. The stock is very fine with a few gouges, scattered scratches and some dings. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet is very good with a mostly bright appearance with some minor areas of pitting. The scabbard is also very good with scattered scratches, indentions and scuffs.
