This is an excellent example of a scarce mid WWII Walther commercial "HP" P.38 pistol. This commercial version of the military P38 pistols were manufactured up until the end of WWII. Although they are the same general configuration as the military version they exhibit much better machining, polishing and blue finish. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther Banner followed by the two-line factory legend and caliber markings followed by "Mod.P38". The serial number, 15544, is located on the right side of the frame, the front of the barrel lug and the top right side of the slide rail. The bottom of the locking block is stamped "544". The right front corner of the slide is stamped with the Nazi "Eagle/N" commercial proofmark, as well as the right side of the barrel, locking block and frame. It is fitted with the standard black checkered plastic grips, with the four circular mold marks on the back sides as follows "Cewe/480/v7/MD/Z3" with the bottom one marked with a number "1". The center section of the right grip is marked with serial number "833". This pistol is complete with one all blue unmarked magazine.

Excellent with 97% of the original blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots, with thinning and blue loss on the front grip strap. The grips are both very fine showing minor handling marks overall. This pistol has all matching numbers except the grips as noted above. Mechanically excellent.
