This is a rare example of second issue Zero Series P38 pistols that has the exposed extractor and scarce correct rectangular firing pin. There were approximately 2,700 manufactured in this series. The slide is marked with the "Walther Banner/P.38/02898". The right side of the slide is marked with a single "Eagle" firing proof between two "Eagle/359" Waffenamt proofs. The serial number is stamped on the front the front of the barrel lug, left side of the frame and left side of the slide. The locking block is stamped "898" on the underside, has a single Eagle firing proof on the left side and the "Eagle/359" Waffenamt proof on the right side. The "eagle/359 proof is also visible on the hammer and right side of the barrel lug. The left side of the barrel lug is stamped with the bore dimension "8,84". It is fitted with black checkered bakelite grips with the correct four subcontractor mold marks on the back sides. Each grip is also serial numbered "898" to match the pistol and both have a single "Eagle/359" Waffenamt proof. It is complete with a single early all blue magazine that is numbered "1233" on the left side and has no other proofs. The slide is fitted with standard front and rear sights that have been painted by the Walther factory; white and red on their back sides. This scarce pistol is complete with an original early 1940 dated black military P38 holster. The back side of the holster is marked "GENCHOW & CO. A.G./1940/BERLIN" all over a "Eagle/WaA286" Waffenamt proof with "P38" in the upper right hand corner.

Excellent with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots, with blue loss on the front edges of the slide, the left side of the muzzle with a very small area of fine pin-prick pitting on the right front edge of the slide. The grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides. The holster is in very fine condition with excellent black color overall with only minor handling marks with tight stitching and clear sharp markings on the back side. This excellent Second Zero Series P38 has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above.
