Description:

Measuring 2 3/4 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide, the base of the medal is a silver cross with radiating bursts between the arms, engraved borders and a swivel-mounted knight's great helm on the top, which serves as the mount for the ribbon bar. On the front of the metal is a delicately carved mother of pearl cluster of grapes, topped with a 5/8 inch wide golden swastika fitted with 17 brown diamonds. On the back of the cross is a small "Z" stamped just below the helm, "HERMANN GORING" across the side bar, and ".9/.11/.23" on the bottom. November 9, 1923 was the second day of the Munich Putsch, aka the Beer Hall Putsch, where then-SA Commander Goering was seriously injured and 16 Party members were killed. According to information provided by the consignor, the medal was commissioned by Goering with Herbert Zeitner, his personal jeweler, to commemorate the fallen. In a blue leatherette case with black and purple velvet lining, an Iron Cross in bullion embroidering inside the lid and a pair of short black ribbons.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The silver shows a fine aged color, with superb detail on the mother of pearl. The ribbons and case show minor wear.
