This is a nice example of a Second Pattern Snail drum magazine fitted with the folding winding lever. The magazine top and bottom are marked with the maker's code, "B/N" (Bing Brothers, Nuremberg), and the serial number, "271282". The top of the drum bears the concentric reinforcing ribs found on later magazines, and the numbers "12", "17", "22", "27" and "32" are stamped around the circumference of the magazine bottom.

Very good, with edge wear and areas of smooth gray patina, a few minor dings and dents and scattered handling marks.
