Active since 1968 John Martz of Lincoln, California is one of the top names in custom Luger and P-38 pistols. He is best known for his "Baby" configuration Lugers and upgraded calibers. This particular example uses an American Eagle Luger as the basis for a Carbine-profile weapon with a ramp blade front sight and 4-position tangent rear sight, American Eagle on the chamber, early flat-top breechblock and "DWM" toggle monogram. The left side of the frame above the trigger bears Martz's "JVM" oval cartouche next to an oval "48/GCM" stamp. Outfitted with niter blue and straw components, a checkered schnabel-tip forearm, checkered grips and a hardwood stock with checkered wrist, blue mounting hardware and a smooth steel buttplate.

Very fine, incomplete as expert custom refurbished and customized. 95% of the original blue, showing mild spotting concentrated on the sights and stock hardware, and scattered handling marks. Side plate is absent. The wood is fine with attractive grain and sharp checkering.
