Description:

This is a standard WWII production British Enfield No 4 MK 1 (T) sniper rifle with the scope, scope mount, canvas scope bag and wooden storage/transit case. These rifles were the standard British sniper rifle developed in the late 1930s and used until the early 1960s with approximately 26,000 manufactured. The left side of the wrist is marked "M47C/1945/S32450/TR". The rifle is fitted with the standard blade front sight and tangent military rear sight. It has the wartime semi-pistol grip stock with brass buttplate, butt trap compartment and the correct screw on wooden cheekpiece. It has the full-length forestock and top handguards. The buttstock and forend both have the correct proof and acceptance marks. The buttstock is correctly stamped "S51" directly behind the pistol grip area. The rifle scope is marked "TEL. SIGHTING/No. 32 Mk.3/O.S. 2039A/No 24012". The mount does not have a maker mark or proof and the side is stamped with "S32450" with the scope rings stamped on the top and bottom half, "727C and 728C" respectively. This sniper rifle is complete with one original magazine, a set of original leather scope caps and a post-war canvas scope bag with the original ink markings on the front of the bag. The original markings have been covered over with a new paper label glued to the front of the bag, that lists the rifle and telescope serial numbers, indicating it was repackaged in 1962. This rifle is complete with an original No 15 Mk I green wooden storage/transit case with an original equipment label glued on the underside of the lid.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 90% of the dark phosphate/enamel finish overall. With wear on the barrel bands, trigger guard and magazine with thinning on the receiver. The stock and handguards are all in very fine condition with clear markings showing numerous handling marks, light pressure dents and dings from handling and use. The top handguards are a different color than the forend. The scope and mounts also retain 90% of the original black painted finish with wear on the ends of the scope. The optics are clear with the windage and elevation knobs a little stiff. The scope bag is very good with clear markings showing wear and handling and the wooden storage case/chest is in good condition with some minor chips, dings and gouges with 50% of the box having been repainted a slightly different shade of green paint.
