Manufactured in 1938. These FitzGerald Specials were hide away guns with short barrels, cut away trigger guards and cut away (bobbed) hammer. A limited number of this model was made in the New Service, Bankers and Detective Specials and other D.A. models. Fitzgerald was employed by Colt from 1918 through 1944 and was one of the more flamboyant personalities in the company's history. The right side of the barrel is marked with two line address/patent dates, "38 DETECTIVE/SPECIAL" on the left side with Rampant Colt on the left frame side. Checkered medallion grips. Complete with the original box numbered to the gun and papers.
Excellent. The revolver retains 90% plus original blue finish with some muzzle and edge wear, thinning on the back strap and some minor spotting on the grip straps. The grips are very good with some minor to moderate wear on the left panel and a few overall minor handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The box is in pieces with much of the lid absent.
