Manufactured in 1895, this exceptional early production Winchester Model 1890 Slide Action Rifle has the highly desirable casehardened frame. The top barrel flat is marked with the standard two-line address "MANUFACTURED BY THE/ WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A." ahead of the rear sight and "22 W.R.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model/maker/patent dates and the serial number is correctly marked only on the lower tang. Dovetailed blade front sight with an ivory bead and fixed iron rear sight. The receiver, frame, buttplate and hammer are casehardened with blue remaining parts, 3/4 magazine tube and mounted with a 12 groove walnut forearm and smooth straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Excellent. The casehardened parts with 90% vivid original case colors remaining showing some wear on the high spots, normal usage wear on the hammer sides and a gray patina on the lower tang. The barrel and magazine tube retain 95% original blue finish with some wear and minor pitting on the muzzle, and some edge wear and thinning. The stock remains very fine with a few minor nicks, dents and dings. There is a slight gap between the buttplate and stock at the toe. The forearm retains most of the finish and shows some minor dings and handling marks. The receiver is a bit ill-fitting to the frame. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
