Manufactured in 1941. Single bead front sight, the left rear of the barrel is marked with the two-line address/proof steel marking followed by "-WINCHESTER-/-TRADE MARK-" and "MODEL 61 - .22 L.RIFLE/--FOR SHOT ONLY--". The Winchester oval proof is marked on top of the barrel and upper left side of the receiver at the breech. The top of the receiver has the correct 5/16 inch wide matted pattern usually found on the later smooth bore rifles. There is a "W" stamped on the bottom of the frame ahead of the trigger guard. The upper receiver tang is drilled and tapped for sight mounting with filler screws installed. The front of the receiver by the magazine tube is marked "BU". Mounted with a 17 groove semi-flat bottom walnut forearm and smooth pistol grip stock with checkered steel buttplate.

Fine. The rifle retains 70% original blue finish with smooth gray patina on the slide arm, some thinning on the magazine tube and barrel, edge wear and some minor pitting on the left side of the receiver. The wood is very good with some minor finish loss at the butt and forearm, an overall some extensive minor dents and handling marks. The markings remain sharp. The action is excellent.
