Manufactured in early 1877, the first year of production. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address and the left side is marked with the etched panel "COLT D.A. 38". The three line, three patent dates are marked on the left side of the frame and the upper left rear on the trigger guard is marked "38 CAL". Blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue with a casehardened frame, and niter blue trigger and hammer, and fitted with a one-piece checkered walnut grip. All matching numbers including the cylinder. British proofs present on the cylinder.

Fine. The revolver retains 60% original blue finish mixed with gray and brown patina, and some scattered minor oxidation. Much of the original niter blue finish remains on the hammer and trigger. The frame retains 60% plus original bright case colors with a smooth mottled gray patina on the balance. The grip is very good with some wear on the high edges, a few dings and dents and very crisp checkering. The action functions, but needs work, the hammer does not hold a full cock position most of the time when using single action. The markings are clear.
