Description:

Colt Single Action Army revolver manufactured c. 1925. The revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that lists the features as: Caliber 45/C, Barrel length 4 3/4 inch, Finish Nickel and Type of Stocks Ivory with carved steer head motif. The letter further states that this revolver was sold to "C.H. Willis" and shipped to the Richards & Conover Hardware Co., in Kansas City, Missouri and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 14, 1925. The revolver has a full nickel plated finish and is fitted with two piece grips with a relief carved steer head motif on the left side. Nickel silver Colt medallions are inlaid at the top of each grip. The revolver hammer has borderless knurling on the spur and the ejector rod has the late oval head. The top of the barrel is roll stamped with the legend: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO/HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A." The caliber marking: "45 COLT" is roll-stamped on the right side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt two line, three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The assembly number, "62" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The left side of the front trigger guard bow is stamped with the assembler's mark "3" above the Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark. "XIII" is neatly carved on the inside of the right grip. The full serial number, "347312" is located on the bottom of the frame and on the right side of the back strap and trigger guard underneath the grip. The partial serial number, "12" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus of the untouched original nickelplated finish. Wear is limited to a few minor handling marks and some flaking on the edges of the muzzle and the cylinder. There is some discoloration on the front of the cylinder surrounding the mouth of each chamber. The markings on the barrel and frame are sharp. The very fine left grip has a deep yellow patina while the relief carved right grip retains more of the original cream colored finish. There are some hairline age stress lines visible in both grip heels. The relief carved steer head light-moderate handling wear. The action is tight and functions well. This is an excellent example of a late production Pre-WWII Colt Single Action Army revolver with factory nickel plated finish and relief-carved ivory grip.
