Description:

Manufactured in 1936. The rifle is chambered in 7.65 mm Argentine, also known as 7.65 mm Mauser, with a total production from 1936-1943 of only 31 according to Madis' "Winchester Handbook". Mr. Madis' goes on to state that these unusual calibers "were made for the ballistics test lab, while a few have also been examined which were made on special order." Hooded ramp front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight on a barrel marked with the Winchester legend on the left side and two line address on the right side. A Winchester factory proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver (double stamped). The early production receiver is tapped for scope mounting at the front and sight mounting on the left rear side. Cloverleaf receiver tang, pre-war safety, polished bolt numbered to the gun and sling swivels. The checkered pistol grip stock has a checkered steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially refinished (trigger guard assembly). The balance rifle retains 95% plus of the blue finish showing limited light spotting in the receiver and high edge wear on the buttplate. The stock is fine with a number of minor pressure dents ahead of the front sling swivel, a long deep scratch on the buttstock (left side) and some minor handling marks overall with a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
