Description:

The brown Damascus barrels feature a solid rib marked "H. FAURE-LE-PAGE A PARIS" in raised gold lettering flanked by raised gold floral accents. The breech of the barrel rib features raised gold scrollwork which are also featured at the muzzle. The muzzle end of the barrels have a single gold inlaid band. The breech end of the barrels have 5 inch sections of deep relief floral scroll chiseled pattern with gold inlaid border and accents. This beautifully executed pattern extends to the lock plates, artfully sculpted hammers, upper tang and flat buttplate. The artfully sculpted trigger guard with extended tang and barrel release feature full coverage of a deep relief chiseled floral pattern with gold accents. The water table is marked with the numbers "N322" (serial number) and "A1877" (likely date of manufacture). The nicely figured walnut straight grip stock and forearm feature an extensive gold and pearl inlaid floral pattern incorporating bold pearl inlaid bordering. The forearm hardware has a chiseled pattern with gold accents similar to that executed on the trigger guard and barrel release. The unusual hinged forearm tilts downward for the release of the barrels. The barrels are brown and the remaining metal surfaces are French gray. The 16 gauge barrels have 2 5/8 inch chambers, cylinder/cylinder chokes and an extractor. Both bores measure .680 with the wall thickness of the left barrel .057 and the thickness of the right barrel is .059. The length of pull is 14 5/8 inches, drop at comb is 1 1/2 inches, drop at heel is 2 inches and there is a 1/8 inch toe out. Fauré Le Page was a Parisian firearms manufacturer established by Louis Pigny in 1717, and run by the same family until 1913. Dumond took over the company in 1913, but retained the illustrious brand name. Firearms by this renowned manufacturer were shown at the International Exhibition in Paris in 1855 (1st Class Medal), 1867 (Silver Medal), 1878 (Gold Medal) 1889 (Grand Prix), in London in 1851 and 1862 (Prize Medals) and in Vienna 1873 (Medal of Progress).

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrels retain 98% plus of the original brown Damascus showing a few minor handling marks. The remaining metal surfaces retain 97% of the original French coin gray finish. The stock is excellent with a few minor handling marks. Most of the gold and pearl inlays remain with some age lines present on the pearl. Mechanically excellent. Truly a beautiful exhibition double barrel hammer shotgun featuring deep relief engraving, gold inlays and pearl inlaid stock work by an elite Paris gunmaker.
