This is a nice example of a Merkel side lock shotgun with a matte vent rib with double ivory bead sights, 2 3/4 inch chambers, auto ejectors, choked improved cylinder/modified. Kersten cross bolt, cocking indicators, double triggers, and tang safety. The action is engraved with floral scroll patterns with a zigzag border. The side locks are very nicely engraved with two hunting dogs scaring up two ducks in a wooded marsh scene on the right side and a fox and quail in a wooded scene on the left. The underside is marked "GEBRUDER MERKEL/SUHL". The left rear of the barrel is marked "GEBRUDER MERKEL/SUHL" and "W. GLASER - WAFFEN ZURICH" on the right side. Satin coin finished action and side plates with blue remaining parts and mounted with a multi-point checkered three piece walnut forearm and round knob pistol grip stock with a solid LimbSaver recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 7/8 inches.

Very good plus. The barrels, break lever and trigger guard retain 97% original blue finish with some minor thinning, some edge wear and a few light handling marks. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. The wood has been lightly sanded and refinished and remains very good showing some minor pressure dents and handling marks. The checkering is very crisp. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. Mechanically fine.
