Description:

This lever activated falling block single shot target rifle was designed by Lewis Hepburn and was manufactured from 1883 to 1907 with approximately 10,000 in total production. The top barrel flat is marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." behind the rear sight. globe front sight and adjustable rear sporting sight. The lower right side of the receiver is marked "HEPBURNS PAT./OCT 7TH 1879" and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The bottom barrel flat under the forearm is marked with the matching serial number and "38" ahead of the forearm. No complete cartridge designation is marked. Blue barrel, niter blue breechblock, hammer and trigger, casehardened remaining metal parts and mounted with a smooth forearm with an iron forend insert, and checkered round knob pistol grip stock with iron sporting style buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine . The period refinished barrel retains 90% blue finish. There are a few areas of minor spotting near the muzzle. The hammer, breech block and trigger retain most of the original bright niter blue finish with wear on the hammer from normal usage. The action retains 80% original case colors, the trigger guard retains 80% with a smooth dove gray on the bow and the buttplate retains 60% original case colors with wear and some minor pitting on the heel and toe. The wood is excellent with a few minor pressure dents and dings, and sharp checkering. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
