Description:

This is a desirable, much sought after, example of an early, first-sub-variation, Mauser, "K" date code military Luger pistol, rig that includes the original 1934 dated leather holster. The "K Date" Lugers were manufactured for the German Army in 1934 and represent the very first true Nazi Army contract pistol. The "K" was developed as a secret wartime code by the Mauser factory to conceal the fact that Germany was rearming in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. These early pistols had an extremely low survival rate as most saw extensive service on the Eastern front, with examples among the most desirable Nazi Luger pistols. This example is classified as a sub-variation 1 Luger and are found in the 1-1700 serial number range, out of the estimated 10,930 total K-date Luger pistols produced. These rare first sub-variations are identified by the Script "S" on all the parts to include the "S/42" markings. The chamber has the standard Script "K" mark, with noted Script "S/42" on top of the front toggle. This example is also properly stamped with the additional script "S" proof on the various other parts to include; the trigger, takedown lever, side plate, safety, toggle assembly, extractor, magazine release button, breech block and barrel extension. The German Army boxed "O/37" acceptance proofs along with an early Mauser Eagle firing proof are located on the right side of the barrel extension. The pistol has two, renumbered to match type 1 army magazines with a nickel plated body and aluminum base. The bases are both re-stamped: "small sunburst/k/705/S" and with the spare magazine also having an additional "1" over the serial number. This rare early example is complete with an original 1934 dated black leather holster. The back of the holster is stamped "LEDERWERKE/KARLAGKVAAG/1934/Eagle proof" and it is complete with the short steel cleaning rod located inside the flap and a proofed takedown tool. The front flap has been affixed with a Nazi eagle tunic pin.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% plus of the original blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear with thinning on the grip straps and a light gray patina on the side plate hump and front edges of the frame. The grips are in excellent condition overall with just a couple of very minor handling marks. The straw parts bright. The holster is also very good with a nice even black color overall with nice tight stitching overall. A super rare example of an all matching K Date Luger pistol rig with two matching magazines.
