Description:

This is a very fine Walther PPK pistol with the high desirable/scarce "RZM" markings on the slide. The Reichs Zeugmeisterei (RZM) served as the quartermasters office of the National Socialists party (NSDAP) and later became the chief approving authority on some types of military weapons, clothing, textiles and some raw materials for the Third Reich. The "RZM" markings on Walther pistols, were used on a periodic basis and are found in several serial numbers ranges with the earliest block of numbers being approximately 803,638-844,468, with this example being right tin the middle of that block. It has the standard Walther factory slide markings on the left side followed by the circled "RZM" markings. The right side of the pistol has the early "Crown/N" commercial proofs on the barrel, chamber area and slide. The inside of the slide is correctly numbered (477) to match the frame. It has the 90 degree safety and checkered streaked brown plastic with the "WALTHER" inside a banner on each side of the grip. This pistol is currently fitted with a standard blued Walther marked magazine with the very scarce, large brown plastic finger rest base plate. This excellent pistol is accompanied by an original WWII, unmarked German Walther PPK leather holster, and the small original Walther tin case for the cleaning accessories. This case holds two spare black plastic magazine bases, a cleaning brush, a small glass vial with cork stopper, (still filled with oil) and a small plastic container of lubriplate, white grease. The current consignor of this pistol stated that he purchased this pistol from the widow of a Capt. D. Smith who was a WWII officer with Gen. Patton's armour unit. A Nazi Colonel reportedly surrendered to Capt. Smith during the war, and upon doing so he opened his valise, and removed the pistol, its holster and this small metal box with contents and presented them to Capt. Smith. No surrender documents accompany this pistol, however.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear overall. The grips are also in very fine condition with a nice color overall with clear sharp checkering and markings. Mechanically excellent. The current large brown finger rest on the base of the magazine shows considerable chipping around the upper rear edge of the base, which was a common problems with these larger bases. The holster is in fine condition with a nice light brown color overall with tight stitching, with the belt loop on the back being a correctly sewn field replacement. The small tin box and contents are all in excellent condition.
