Manufactured in 1887, this High Wall rifle features a 30 inch #3 octagon barrel with a gold washed folding combination globe front sight, the rear sight dovetail has been filled and the upper tang is fitted with a Marble's short range peep sight with a disk. The top barrel flat is marked with the standard two-line address ahead of the rear sight slot and "38-55" uniquely stamped in small numbers at the breech. The bottom of the barrel in front of the forearm is marked "3" and the lower tang is marked with the patent date behind the trigger and the serial number behind the lever. The barrel is blue and the receiver and lever casehardened. Mounted with deluxe nicely figured checkered walnut Schnabel forearm with an ebony forend insert and round knob pistol grip stock with a once nickel plated brass Swiss buttplate.

Very good plus. The barrel retains 40% of the original thin blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The receiver has a smooth mottled gray patina with strong traces of original faded case colors on the right side. The lever has a smooth dark patina. The wood is also very good with some scattered minor dents, dings and crisp checkering. The buttplate has a natural dark aged patina. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
