Description:

Manufactured in 1924, the transitional 1911's were a batch of pistols with the features of the 1911A1, but still bearing the nomenclature of the 1911. The transitional pistols would also be the final batch of Colt pistols acquired by the United States for over a decade, with no new 1911A1s added to military stocks until 1937. Blade and notch sights, with the two-line, two-block address and patent markings divided by the Rampant Colt logo on the left side of the slide "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY" on the right, and "H" above the firing pin block. The frame bears the early circular Walter Gordon "WTG" inspection stamp, with the short milled trigger, wide hammer, long grip safety, arched checkered mainspring housing, fully-checkered hardwood grips, "A" marked two-tone magazine and correct Colt barrel with conjoined "HP" on top of the chamber.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 70% of the faded original blue finish, showing a bright gray patina on the high edges, mixed brown and gray on the grip straps, and scattered handling marks. Small patches of pitting are present on the slide and frame, concentrated in a band running through the trigger guard and over the top of the chamber; the exact cause of this pattern is unknown. Grips are very good, with some minor flat spots and chipping on the lower right panel. Mechanically excellent.
