Description:

This is a nice example of a U.S. Army contract Colt Model 1911 Semi-automatic pistol that was manufactured in 1916. This pistol was one of a lot of 500 pistols shipped in Dec 1916 to the commanding Officer of San Antonio Arsenal. The pistol has a military blue finish with checkered walnut grips and is fitted with a two-tone magazine with lanyard loop floor plate. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the Colt 1897-1913 patent dates in a two-line block followed by "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." in two lines with the early style uncircled Rampant Colt trademark roll-stamped behind the grip serrations. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped in serifed Roman letters "MODEL OF 1911 U.S.ARMY". An "H" provisional inspection mark is stamped on the rear of the slide above the firing pin hole. The right side of the receiver is roll-stamped with the serial number "No 137339", with the left side stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" ahead of the trigger guard bow. The Ordnance inspector's initials "GHS", for Major Gilbert Stewart is stamped above the magazine release button. It is fitted with an all blued barrel with the separate "H" and "P" proofmarks over the chamber area, with a "Q" on the right side and a "5" on the underside in front of the lug. The top of the receiver in front of the disconnector hole is stamped with an "H", a "U" and an "H" provisional proofs.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the strong original blue finish remaining with edge, high spot and front grip strap wear overall. The grips are very fine with nice distinct checkering overall with some minor handling marks with a visible dent on the lower left side grip. Mechanically excellent.
