Description:

Produced without a serial number or government acceptance markings. The frame is nearly devoid of markings, save "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the right side and "H" on top ahead of the disconnector, the preliminary inspector's mark of Frank Hosmer, Colt Inspector, with the slide bearing the three-line patent and "S" in flaming bomb markings attributed to the Savage Firearms Company along with the non-serifed "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY" on the right. Long smooth hammer, checkered wide hammer, slide stop and thumb safety, short grip safety, smooth mainspring housing, diamond flats on the grip panels, "R" marked two-tone magazine, and a conjoined "HP" barrel. The circumstances behind this combination of components are unknown; the frame may have been supplied to Savage by Colt as a tool room model, or may have been a "lunch box gun" that was 'liberated' by an employee one-piece at a time. Additionally, the rear section of the top of the frame around the hammer shows a more convex profile than is typically seen on Colt 1911 frames of the World War I/Inter-War Era, another anomaly we have no concrete explanation for, other than quite possibly to be used as a production sample.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 50% of the strong original blue finish, strongest in the protected areas, with a mixed brown and gray patina overall, bright edge wear, and scattered handling marks. Grips are very good, with some mild dents and tiny chips. Mechanically excellent.
