It is unsure of the manufacture date, the front underside of the receiver has been numbered "17" and the lower tang has been shortened and a "7" is visible as the first number in the serial number, which regardless of the remainder of the number, the rifle is an antique. The rifle is fitted with an engraved heavy Vanwey octagon barrel chambered in 45 caliber. The breech and muzzle ends, and center upper flats are engraved with a floral scroll design with a punch dot background. The bottom flat under the forearm is marked "45-2.6", J.A. VANWEY/GRN.MTN." and "10/2003 over .450/.457 1:16". The barrel is fitted with a globe spirit level front sight and a "MVA 6X" marked scope with adjustable rear ring. The upper tang is fitted with a sight base and the rifle comes with a Vernier long range peep sight in a Browning tang sight set plastic case. Double set triggers, blue finish with casehardened lever and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with ebony forend insert and custom pistol grip stock with cheek piece and solid Decelerator recoil pad.

Very good as custom built. The rifle retains half of the custom blue finish with some edge wear and thinning on the barrel, and some areas of smooth gray patina on the receiver. The lever shows 40% original faded case colors with a smooth silver gray patina on the balance. The wood is also very good overall. There are two filled holes on the underside of the forearm, a streak of rough varnish on the stock, and overall some minor handling marks. The scope is very good with 90% original finish remaining with a small area of smooth gray patina, some normal usage wear and clear optics.
