This is an excellent example of a very rare Winchester Model 1895 deluxe short rifle with three special order features that was manufactured in 1920. This rifle should not be confused with a carbine as it does not have the top handguard or a saddle ring on the receiver. It was produced with a short 22 inch heavy-barrel that measures approximately .675 at the muzzle and 1.00 inch at the breech end of the barrel in front of the receiver. The barrel is fitted with a Lyman heavy front sight with an ivory tipped bead, a two-leaf folding rear sight and a early Lyman model 95 side mounted rear sight. The sight is adjustable for elevation only with the rear peep sight adjustable for windage by drifting/tapping the rear aperture side ways. The special order stock is made from a grade 1 plus fancy walnut and the forearm is actually a grade 2 or 3 with slightly more burl walnut grain and colors, both with a hand rubbed oil finish on the wood. The top of the receiver ring has a short rolled, matte pattern and both the barrel and receiver are correctly stamped with the Winchester "W/P" proof mark. The left side of the barrel has the two line; "--NICKEL STEEL BARREL--/--ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER--" followed by "--.30 Gov't-06". The left side of the receiver is roll stamped with "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A./PATENTED NOV.5.95.NOV.12.95.AUG.17.97.JAN.25.98.AUG.23.98.AUG.6.1907.". The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1895/- WINCHESTER-/ TRADE MARK REG US PAT OFF & FGN." The serial number, "400156" is stamped on the lower receiver tang.

Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue finish showing minor edge and high spot wear with slight wear/blue loss on the rear, underside of the magazine box. The stock and forend are both excellent with only a couple of very minor handling marks on the stock with a couple slightly heavier ones on the upper edge of the forend. The wood to metal fit is excellent. An excellent example of a scarce special order Winchester Model 1895 rifle.
