Description:

Manufactured in 1855. This revolver has the distinctive steel back strap and large oval trigger guard. The top barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS COL COLT LONDON-" and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". The left side of the barrel lug ahead of the wedge is marked with a "crown/V" and "crown/GP" proof mark. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and marked with the crown "V" and "GP" proof alternating between the nipple recesses. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder, loading lever and arbor pin, with the partial number "7990" on the wedge. The barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap were blue, the loading lever, frame and hammer casehardened. Fitted with a smooth modern replacement one-piece ivory grip. Complete in a relined wooden case with brass disk on the lid and green felt lining. In the case is a bag shaped powder flask, Eley Bros. cap tin, (partially full), key, two cavity iron bullet mold with "COLT'S/PATENT" marked sprue cutter and "waj" on one arm, a nickel oiler, combination screwdriver/nipple wrench and a several lead balls.

Rating Definition:

Fair as partially refinished, the barrel has been cold blued some time ago and the metal surfaces have a mottled gray patina. The cylinder scene is 98% visible. The oversize replacement fine grip is a bit ill-fitting, loose and warped, showing a number of minor age cracks. The markings are clear. The action is fine. The case is good with "TJA" crudely carved into the lid, a few minor chips, scratches and dings on the exterior, some tearing, minor wear and staining on the lining. The bullet mold is good with a pitted gray patina, the cap tin has a gray patina with minor oxidation, and the remaining accessories are very good.
