Description:

Consignor notes indicate this is a French Rauchouse squeeze pistol. Upon extensive research, writer found a similar pistol identified as a Merveilleux Repeating pistol, maker unknown, on page 446, No. 1523 in Volume II of Firearms Identification by J. Howard Mathews. The lower left side of the plunger is marked with a "Crown/JH/R" and the serial number is on the opposite. The frame is engraved with floral designs, and the face of the plunger and back strap are checkered. The plunger pulls the barrel back over the cartridge and fires it when it reaches the rear, ejecting the empty casing when the shooter lets up on the plunger and the barrel goes forward. There is a small ring on the left side of the frame that pulls the follower down for loading. Brass post front sight, nickel finish with blue barrel and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips. Comes in a gold embossed hard leather case with fabric and velvet lining and five cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The frame retains 75% original nickel finish with a dark patina on the exposed areas and a small amount of minor pitting. The barrel has a smooth mottled brown patina. The grips are very good with crisp checkering. Mechanically fine. The case is good with some minor wear and scuffs on the exterior, and some wear and soiling on the lining.
