During the early period of WWI the Artillery Luger Model pistols were fitted with what is known as a fine tune adjustable front and rear sight design. For these sights, a special tool (fine tune sight adjusting tool) was used by an armor to make adjustments to the sights. Note, each Artillery Model Luger pistol was not supplied with this adjusting tool, probably only a couple of tools were supplied to each company of personnel. The tool in this lot is 100% original and has a very fine quality knurling done along the handle portion, with the tip being fitted with two blued steel pins which fit into the actual sight base on the guns. For an example of such an adjusting tool refer to page 113 in Jan Still's "Imperial Lugers" book. A rarely found WWI accessory. Between the wars few Luger pistols were in use and thus P.08 ammo production was kept to a minimum. This sealed box of 16 rounds of P.08 (Luger) ammo is dated 1930 with components being dated 1928, 1929 and 1930. A rarely found Weimar period unopened box of Luger military ammo. The recently published book, "The Mauser Parabellum 1930-1946" authored by Hallock and van de Kant provides extensive information on Mauser era Luger production. The earliest of the Mauser military Lugers was the K-date Model. As explained on page 97, roughly the first 3,500 of these K-date Luger pistols were marked with the first variation Acceptance Marking of O/37. The combination takedown tools which came with these very first K-date Lugers were also stamped with the rarely found O/37 Acceptance Marking. Refer to page 609 for examples of these early tools, the first variation of which does not have a dark blue military finish. Such a tool is included in this lot and is probably the rarest of all Third Reich period marked Luger tools. Condition shows age and use. As explained on page 690, the first roughly 8,000 K-date Luger pistols were each delivered with a 4 inch steel cleaning rod and that is why some K-date Luger holsters have a provision inside the top flap to hold this cleaning rod. As explained, the rod may have a small or large loop end, but always has a brass tip. Such a large loop K-date cleaning rod is included in this lot. A very difficult K-date Luger accessory to find today.

Very fine overall for all four components of this lot. The box of ammunition is intact with all the corners still solid and not broken out and the paper label on the front of the box is also completely intact. The sight tool is finished with a silver wash, part of which has worn away to reveal a copper tone underneath. This cleaning rod shows use and wear with patina on all of the surfaces. A nice groups of desirable Luger accessories.
