Description:

An evolution of the 1935 pattern, the 1940 stahlhelm eliminated the grommeted vents in order to speed production. Green paint finish overall, with the red, white and black "swastika" shield decal on the left side and the "SS" shield decal with black runes on a gold/silver background on the right. The chinstrap is brown leather, with "Thale/stahl" stamped on the underside of the brim and a "54" ink stamp on the brown leather webbing. 4 sections of cork padding are mounted between the main body of the helmet and the metal framework of the webbing.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall, with an olive green color (different shade from the accepted "SS" green) mild wear and scuffing of the green finish, showing dark underlying steel. A small, pea-sized dot of material is absent from the SS shield, otherwise both decals are solid. The leather shows mild stains and cracking.
