Description:

This excellent example of a Colt Model 1902 Military semi-automatic pistol manufactured in 1908. This pistol has the distinctive long slower grip with a swivel lanyard loop on the left side, eight-shot magazine and slide stop on the left side of the frame. The later pattern slide has serrations on the rear. The left side of the slide is marked "PATENTED/APR. 20. 1897. SEPT. 9.1902.", followed by "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A." with the circled Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS". The left side of the frame is marked with the serial number, "31570", above the trigger guard, the Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark on the upper left side of the trigger guard and the Colt "6" assembler's mark on the lower part of the bow. The magazine has a high polish blue finish and is stamped: "CAL. 38/COLT" on the bottom of the floor plate. Fixed low profile sights, blue finish with casehardened hammer, blue Colt marked magazine and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt in a circle in the center and "COLT" in a banner at the top. The Colt Model 1902 Military Automatic Pistol was manufactured by Colt from 1902 to 1929 and gained a reputation as a accurate hard hitting pistol.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pistol retains 97% of the original bright high polish blue finish. Finish wear is limited to some muzzle and high point wear of the slide, and some thinning on the grip straps. The hammer retains virtually all of the vivid case colors. 85% of the delicate niter blue finish remains on the trigger and other small parts. The grips are excellent. All of the markings are sharp. The magazine retains 95% of the original blue finish with a brown patina on the floor plate. This is an excellent example of one of Colt's and John M. Browning's early successful automatic pistol designs.
