Description:

This is a fine example of a desirable Colt U.S. Navy contract Model 1909 D.A. revolver that was manufactured in 1909. This is one of 1000 Model 1909 D.A. revolvers manufactured for the U.S. Navy. The revolver has the Colt high polish blue finish on the barrel, frame and cylinder. The ejector rod and lanyard swivel are casehardened. The trigger and hammer are niter blued and the sides of the hammer are polished bright. The two-piece grips are black walnut. The revolver butt is roll-stamped "U.S.N." above an anchor and "45 DA" behind the lanyard swivel and stamped with the Navy serial number "No. 65" in front of the swivel. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with Hartford address and 1884, 1900 and 1905 dates in two-lines. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the caliber designation "COLT D.A. 45". The Rampant Colt trademark above a stylized "C" is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame. The Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark is stamped on the left side of the frame above the front trigger guard bow and the assembler's number "3" is stamped over the left rear trigger guard bow. The Colt serial number, "24040" is stamped on the inside of the frame and crane. The partial serial number "4040" is stamped on the back of the cylinder latch. All of the visible serial numbers match.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 50% of the original blue finish. Most of the finish wear is concentrated on the grip straps, bottom of the trigger guard and muzzle. The barrel, frame and cylinder have scattered light storage marks. The hammer and trigger have about 75% of the niter blue finish. The barrel and frame markings are crisp. The action is tight and functions perfectly. The grips are in good overall condition with moderate wear. This is a very good example of a scarce and hard to find Colt Model 1909 U.S. Navy D.A. revolver.
