This deluxe version of the standard Model 70 rifle was manufactured in 1942 in the rare 250-3000 Savage caliber. Winchester introduced the 250-3000 Savage caliber in 1937 to its line of Model 70s before discontinuing the caliber in 1949. As Model 70 expert and author Dean Whitaker has noted, that of the approximately 135,000 units manufactured during the first thirteen years of Model 70 production, 250-3000 Savage chambered variations make up an "extremely small percentage." The barrel is equipped with a hooded ramp front sight and a filler block in the rear sight dovetail slot with the with the Winchester legend stamped on the left side. The receiver is tapped for scope mounting on the front and has a Lyman sight (stock inletted). The Winchester factory proof is stamped on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The floor plate is stamped "-SUPER GRADE-." Pre-war safety, polished bolt numbered to gun and cloverleaf receiver tang. The nicely figured straight comb pistol grip stock features multi-point checkering, ebony forend tip, quick release sling swivels, right handed cheekpiece, hard rubber Winchester grip cap and checkered steel buttplate.

Very fine as professionally refurbished/restored. The rifle retains nearly all of the blue finish showing the slightest handling marks. The stock is very good with a few very light handling marks and crude re-cut checkering. Mechanically excellent.
